Seed Pods

Interactive sculpture

Created in collaboration with Bernadetta Majauskaitė, this interactive sculpture was made from baobab seed pods gathered during repeated, ritualized walks in a Hollywood, Florida park. The trees’ unexplained presence there—an enduring local mystery—echoed our own experiences as immigrants, from Lithuania and Colombia, living far from our places of origin.

Bound into two suspended clusters with long strands of twisted jute, the pods were activated by visitors pulling attached cords, causing the bundles to swing, collide, and produce a hollow, woody rhythm. With each impact, small clouds of pollen fell and slowly accumulated on the gallery floor, transforming the sculpture into an instrument of migration, memory, movement, and dispersal.
